Our investment philosophy

Discover the evidence, principles, and behaviours behind our investment approach, and how we keep your portfolio focused on your life.

What our philosophy
means in practice

We invest based on
evidence, never opinion

Our investment approach is grounded in decades of academic research and financial science. We do not rely on forecasts, hunches or what’s “hot” right now. Instead, we focus on what evidence consistently shows matters over time: diversification, discipline, low costs and good investor behaviour. We choose investment partners who share that same philosophy.

We don’t hunt for needles;
we buy the haystack

Trying to identify tomorrow’s winning company, sector or fund is incredibly difficult. Rather than attempting to outguess highly competitive markets, (and pay more for the privilege) we spread investments across thousands of businesses worldwide. This broad approach helps us capture market returns without depending on a handful of predictions coming right, reducing unnecessary concentration and guesswork.

We own equities for
long-term growth

Equities give you ownership in real businesses: companies that innovate, adapt, generate profits and, over time, can grow in value. For long-term investors, they are an important engine of wealth creation and can help protect spending power against inflation. Their role is growth, which is why they form a key part of many portfolios.

We hold bonds for
stability, not return

Bonds play a different role to equities. Their purpose is not usually to drive long-term growth, but to bring stability, reduce volatility and provide a source of capital when markets are unsettled. The right balance depends on your timeframe, liquidity needs, experience and wider financial plan, not simply the result of a questionnaire.

We diversify globally,
to protect your interests

No single company, sector, or country should have the power to derail your plan. By investing across global markets, we spread risk and give your portfolio access to growth wherever it happens. We avoid adding asset classes simply for complexity’s sake, preferring broad, efficient exposure where we believe it genuinely improves the portfolio.

We invest for decades,
not for days

Markets can move sharply over days or months, but long-term wealth is built over years and decades. Short-term volatility is an unavoidable part of investing, not necessarily a sign that something has gone wrong. We keep our focus on the long-term plan rather than reacting to every headline, forecast or market wobble.

We focus on what
we can control

We cannot control markets, interest rates, inflation, or geopolitics. We can control costs, diversification, tax efficiency, asset allocation, rebalancing and behaviour. These decisions matter enormously over time. Just as importantly, we help clients avoid emotional reactions and short-term mistakes that can do far more damage than temporary market falls.

We plan first; the
portfolio follows

A portfolio should have a job to do. We start by understanding your goals, priorities and wider financial plan, then build investments around them. Your portfolio is a tool, not the end goal. It is reviewed over time and adjusted as your life changes, keeping your money aligned with what matters most.

What you can
expect from us

You can expect honest guidance, clear explanations, and a disciplined approach. We will keep costs and unnecessary complexity under control, avoid pretending we can predict markets, and help you stay focused when uncertainty rises.

Above all, we will keep your investments connected to the financial plan they are there to support.

What we expect
from you

Good investing is a partnership. All we ask of you is to be patient, tune out short-term noise, and speak to us before making major decisions based on fear, headlines, or market movements.

Your plan was built carefully around your life, so we ask you to give it time and trust the thinking behind it.

Where our
value lies

It’s a fair question to ask what, exactly, you are paying for. We think it’s helpful to be specific.

Others, despite unreliable evidence, may pretend to add value in predicting markets, timing peaks and troughs, or finding the next winning fund.

We choose to spend our time on things that work; understanding your goals, building a long-term plan, creating a suitable portfolio, and helping you stick with it through change, uncertainty, and market cycles.

“Permanent loss in a well-diversified portfolio is always
a human achievement of which the market itself is incapable.”

— Nick Murray

Took the time to understand our needs and goals to present options for us to take forward. Having been sceptical of this as an industry I am now a convert and enjoying the benefits of the advise and guidance.

Conor provides good, honest advice. On more than one occasion he has advised me to stick with my current provider when he could have encouraged me to switch so he made money. That's why I trust his advice.

As a recently divorced woman I needed help with my financial affairs and Conor was recommended by my accountant. I believe he has helped me find the best solutions to my issues and has at all times been prompt, attentive, helpful, clear, efficient, patient, responsive and personable. I could not recommend him highly enough and have suggested him already to my children and friends

Conor has been instrumental in helping my relative sort out his pension after taking an unplanned early retirement. After trying for two years by himself and trying other professionals he couldn't get access to his pension and was being told different things and being fobbed off constantly, everything was too much hassle. My relative didn't trust anyone to help and after reading reviews from some friends I contacted Conor. Conor asked me about my relative, his concerns and what his hopes where so he knew what to expect on his first meeting. Nothing was too much trouble even meeting at a neutral location to make my relative feel at ease. Conor had taken everything I had said and knew in advance how apprehensive my relative was. I would say within 10 minutes my relative was so much happier, an hour later, email written and paperwork requested to pension holders and my relative was a changed person he knew what he was entitled to and that the money he thought was missing (and was told) wasnt and was in fact there. It didn't stop there though. Conor has since helped my relative two more times, the second time the pension company even though correctly filled in by Conor and my relative they declined the request saying the option they had written in their letter could not be selected as an option. (we were all confused by that one!) Lastly Conor and my relative got together to go through more updated paperwork they had sent through, all forms filled in again together and now phone calls with pension holders have been had and things are moving to get to the resolution which Conor set out to achieve. What I am trying to say is pensions are confusing along with savings, bonds and finances in general, to have someone like Conor take the time to know you, know what you want makes such a difference, he also talks in a language which is understandable to those like my relative and even myself who find it all overwhelming. I am looking forward to Conor sorting my finances out in the not too distance future, what he has done for my relative though will make sure he is now secure until he hits official retirement and means a less worry and he can enjoy himself. Thank you.
